What happens when the fluid level in the canister is above the maximum level? PDF Print E-mail

If the level of the fluid in the Spatter Shield Canister is above the maximum limit there is a risk that droplets of fluid will be forced through the foam filter in the canister and enter the inert gas stream as fine fluid droplets. The higher the fluid level rises above the maximum level the greater will be the risk that droplets of fluid will be present in the inert gas stream. This risk can be greatly reduced if a liquid separator is fitted downstream of the canister. Regular purging of the gas line will also greatly reduce the risk of any droplets getting to the weld operations as any accumulated liquid will be removed from the gas lines during the purging operation.

Liquid Separator

Below is a picture of a Spatter Shield Liquid Separator. You will notice it is very similar to a Spatter Shield Probe, however it has the shorten Probe length with no jet and no plunger.

Liquid Separator Fully Assembled

The picture below shows the Liquid Separator as it would be as if it where assembled on your manual or robot mig welder.

Comments

When Blue, Red & Grey Spatter Shield Probes are used to produce higher levels of mist, the level of condensated liquid also builds up in the line.

This liquid build up can be put through a liquid separator collecting the liquid for re use and allowing only the higher mist concentration to continue.

The liquid separator is simply, a modified standard probe that will act as a separator; the Empty Canister is a current Market version. It is installed in a gas line after the Spatter Shield Kit.

Length of hose from Liquid Separator to welding nozzle should be short as practically possible.

The benefits of utilising the liquid separator:

  1. No dripping of liquid from (High Mist Concentration Probes) hence: less chance of porosity;
  2. Collected liquid can be re-utilized to maximise fluid cost savings;
  3. Decrease downtime, through decreasing frequency of purging procedures.
